GIY Gathering - Co Waterford

Saturday 15th - Sunday 16th September 2012

The GIY Gathering will bring together gardeners, growers, and food lovers from all over Ireland to learn more about growing their own food and to celebrate the harvest as part of the Waterford Harvest Festival.

Up to 500 gardeners, growers, and food lovers from all over Ireland are expected to converge on Waterford and the event will include 2 days of talks, demos, workshops, panel discussions, debates and forages.

Highlights from the weekend will include: world-class growers and gardeners giving GIY masterclasses and tips. Talk topics including seed sowing, organic growing, dealing with pests and diseases, composting, permaculture, seed saving and biodynamics.

Foodies can enjoy Cook It Yourself food demos: cooking with weeds and wild foods, harvest cooking, butter making, butchering a pig and mushroom foraging. Schools and restaurants can learn the practicalities of setting up a garden and its benefits, and networks of community gardens and allotments will share skills."
