Famine Warhouse

During the Great Famine the Warhouse was a key location in the 1848 Rebellion when rebels under the leadership of the Protestant aristocrat, William Smith O?Brien, M.P. pursued and besieged 47 police who barricaded themselves into the McCormack farmhouse taking five children hostage.

Exhibits cover the history of the Famine and mass emigration, the rebellion, high treason trials and penal exile of the Young Ireland leaders in Australia and their escapes to the U.S.A.

Opening Time:

Open daily April-September 2.30-5.30pm. Saturday & Sunday only, October-March, 2-4pm.
