Glendine Country House
Ann and Tom Crosbie's large nineteenth century farmhouse is approached up a driveway off the main road to Arthurstown, and has magnificent views across the estuary. It is a spacious house and makes a very comfortable and hospitable place to stay at a reasonable price; it would be ideal for a family holiday as there are sandy beaches nearby and there's a safe, enclosed playground for children beside the house - and they also enjoy the highland cows, Jacob sheep and horses which the Crosbies keep in paddocks around the house.
A pleasant guest drawing room has plenty of comfortable seating and excellent views down to the harbour, and across the estuary, and the immaculately maintained bedrooms are very large, as are the en-suite bathrooms. Five new guest rooms have recently been completed and they are really lovely - large, bright and airy, they are individually decorated but the tone is quite contemporary and they have smart bathrooms; the original rooms are more traditional, with a cosy atmosphere, and all nine rooms have sea views.
Service at Glendine House is a priority; the Crosbies take pride in giving their guests personal attention and lots of advice on local amenities - and sending everyone off well-fed for the day after a really good breakfast that offers home-baked breads, fresh and cooked fruits, organic porridge and a range of hot dishes include smoked salmon & scrambled eggs and French toast as well as the full Irish.
