Established in1989 by Antonio and Marion Cavaliere, this well-known restaurant is in a semi-basement in the impressive terrace opposite Kilkenny Castle - at the beginning of what ois now known as 'the medieval mile'. It is Kilkenny's longest established Italian restaurant and the closely packed tables are an indication of its enduring popularity, with the main room quickly filling up at busy times.

It's an atmospheric  and well appointed destination, with Murano glass from Venice a highlight of the elegant interior. Rinuccini is also home to one of Ireland's best Italian wine lists, and diners are welcome to browse their custom built wine cellar, which is also visible through windows in the floor on the newer upstairs seating level.

Having celebrated three decades in business in 2019, Rinuccini continues to be very much a family affair with Antonio and Marian's son Riccardo and his wife Orla now also involved in the the business. Antonio was well ahead of the curve when it comes to 'local and seasonal' and, while his cooking style is mainly classic Italian, it has earned recognition as much for the attention paid to ingredients as the style of cuisine. Producers and suppliers of the carefully sourced local ingredients are proudly credited and they also bring back their own cheeses, olive oils and wines from their home town in Lazio.

Quite an extensive à la carte evening menu is offered, also a set early dinner menu and a shorter one available as an option at lunchtime. Luxurious house specialities include Gamberoni Rinuccini (fresh Kilmore Quay prawns, served out of their shells, in a cream sauce with a touch of Dijon mustard and brandy...) The consistently high standard of cooking applies to everything from the simplest soup to the grandest speciality dish: excellent minestrone, a superb plate of house antipasti, delicious seafood and memorable handmade pasta dishes are all skilfully cooked and stylishly presented.

Front of house is managed with warmth and the service at this popular Kilkenny restaurants generally prompt and hospitable- this, together with terrific food and and outstanding value for money, ensure there is always a buzz.
