Dalkey, Co. Dublin

Dalkey is named after its neighbouring island and grew up as a medieval port.  After the construction of the railway it thrived as a seaside suburb from the 19th century onwards until the present day where it has become a spot for the rich and famous to reside. 

It is well served by the DART and buses, with spectacular views of Killiney Bay and Dalkey Island, with many interesting shops, art galleries and restaurants. 

Dalkey Hill provides a pleasant wooded park to walk in and Dalkey Castle and Heritage Centre (+353 (0) 12 858 366, open all year) are a must see for any visitor. 

Dalkey Island provides the opportunity for an interesting boat trip, and once on the island visitors can explore the ruins of a 17th century church, or try a spot of fishing or seal watching. 

Every Friday there is a farmers’ market at the Dalkey town hall.
