Dax Restaurant

Olivier Meisonnave named this appealing restaurant after his home town in Les Landes, and it was the culmination of a longheld ambition. Flagged floors, light-toned walls and pale upholstery set off simple contemporary darkwood furniture, and it all adds up to a tone of relaxed contemporary elegance.

Specialties like sautéed foie gras with apple and whole roasted seabass with herbs, feature on frequently changed menus that offer a carefully judged selection of dishes that can make up a standard 3-course meal, or be ordered as a light plate to enjoy with wine - a growing trend in Dublin at the moment, and a welcome one.

Charcuterie and tapas style plates serve as starters or stand-alone dishes, and you'll also find substantial main courses (including a good steak), classic puddings and exceptional cheeses.

An outstanding, mainly French, wine offering includes many great wines, a fair selection of affordable bottles, a carefully chosen choice of half bottles, and many by the glass.

Seats 65 (Private room seats 14); not suitable for children under 5 yrs. No wheelchair access. Air con. Reservations recommended. Open Tue-Sat, L 12.30-2pm; D 6-10.30, Set L €28, Early 3 course D €35, 6-7pm, Tue-Thurs; also á la carte. SC 12.5%. Closed Sun, Mon, 25 Dec - 4 Jan. Amex, MasterCard, Visa, Laser.
